The traditional approach to homeschooling under sections 12 and 13 of the School Act gives parents full autonomy, and TLA will continue to consider these families high priority for service. Under this approach, students are registered and there are no accountability issues for parents. Parents provide their children with a program, but do so with no supervision by TLA or the Ministry of Education. TLA receives a small amount of funding for each student registered with us, most of which is allocated to help parents to obtain learning resources. TLA has consistently maximized this amount to encourage parents to seriously consider sticking to an independent program at home, as most homeschoolers wish to do.
